The Ballad of Treadmill Trackstar: Music for Music's Sake

When it comes artists, true artists regardless of media, there's a sort of compulsion that leads them to create. It's not about money or fame or anything other than the love the making their art that makes them continue... art for art's sake. There's a lot of musicians that fall into that category of artist, but the mainstream hasn't always been receptive of their work in the past.

Extending the May 2011 Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll

in

Just a quick note to say that I've decided to extend the deadline for this months Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll. Just didn't think there was enough of interest to really merit a full carnival this month, so we'll let it go for another month and see what turns up.

Check back soon,

Take care,

Queens of the Stone Age Rock Their Debut Album and More

Who thinks I need to go to more concerts? I absolutely do... especially when they're as great as the one I went to earlier this month. In early April here in Chicago, I finally got to witness in person the massive awesomeness that is a Queens of the Stone Age live concert.

Rock and Roll Feature: Steely Dan Can't Buy a Thrill

This is the thirty-sixth in a series of Rock & Roll features I'm writing for this site. I'm a rock and roller, so this column is a way for me to feature a different album that I like, from different genres every month.

Carnival of Rock and Roll–April 2011

Well I've finally gotten around to being able to put together another Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll and although the number of submissions was actually quite high, it was unfortunately plagued with spam and things far, FAR off topic. Nothing against those people who submitted something off topic, but they don't get to be part of the carnival.

March 2011 Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll Postponed

in

Unfortunately it looks as if we're going to have to postpone the carnival of Rock 'n' Roll for this month... personally I blame real life most of all.

It's ok though as this gives plenty of time to accumulate more interesting posts from more interesting places. The next carnival of rock and roll will run on April 1st... please stay tuned.

Take care,

Queens of the Stone Age Reissue Debut and Plan Tour

As someone who considers themselves something of a collector when it comes to music, there always seems to be an album or two that I can't seem to track down both in good condition and for a price I'm willing to pay.

The Secret History of Rock 'n' Roll: The Mysterious Roots of Modern Music

Anyone who's ever been to a really great rock and roll concert can probably tell you... it's more than “just a concert”. No. the good ones can border on a sort of mystical experience where magical things happen and time seems to stand still, albeit just for a moment... even if it's a sober moment.

Rock and Roll Feature: Tribute to the White Stripes and Their Debut Album

This is the thirty-sixth in a series of Rock & Roll features I'm writing for this site. I'm a rock and roller, so this column is a way for me to feature a different album that I like, from different genres every month.

Mourning the Passing of Gary Moore

Another sad piece of news from the music world this month: the passing from a heart attack of guitarist Gary Moore at the age of 58.
