Happy Labor Day from the Soul of Rock and Roll

in

Just wishing everyone out there a happy Labor Day from the Soul of Rock 'n' Roll.

As is customary in the States, we celebrate Labor Day by engaging in as little actual "labor" as possible and here at the Soul of Rock 'n' Roll we're no different.

Check back tomorrow though for September 2008's Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll. it's looking like it'll be a good one.

Take care,

D.A.N.

Tribute to LeRoi Moore

Sadly it appears as if another great musician has left us recently. LeRoi Moore, founding member and saxophonist (and general woodwind player) for the Dave Matthews Band passed away the other day at 43 from complications after a vehicle accident earlier this summer.

Cream Live on the Glen Campbell Show 1968

Sometimes it's amazing how the arrangement of a song can completely change the feel... or even something as small as the guitar timbre. Maybe this is why guitarists spend so much time searching for their perfect guitar tone; to create that perfect mood for the song. Changes to that tone though, or to the arrangement of a song, does not always have to produce undesirable results. In many cases, if the song is strong and the musicians talented, the song can morph into something new that stands on it's own, just as well as the original.

In Memory of Isaac Hayes

Well it's a sad day in the music world again as we mourn the death of Mr. Isaac Hayes. Hayes passed away just the other day at the age of 65.

Wolfmother to Reorganize?

Kind of a sad, but also interesting bit of news from the music scene in the past few days. The Australian band that sounded so much like Zeppelin, and Sabbath and Cream, Wolfmother, has decided to disband, or well... reorganize. Bass/keyboard player Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett have decided to leave the band to pursue a different project citing personality and artistic differences. This leaves signer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale as the only remaining member of the band and apparently he intends to continue with a new lineup, under the Wolfmother moniker.

Rock and Roll Feature: The Screaming Trees, Straight Out of the Sweet Oblivion

This is the twentieth in a series of Rock & Roll features I'm writing for this site. I'm a rock and roller, so this column is a way for me to feature a different album that I like, from different genres every month.
