Do We Take Music Too Seriously?

Preface: I write based on inspiration and today this is what I was inspired to write. I know I've talked about these topics before, so hopefully this isn't too much of a rehash and if it is, I hope it is at least a little entertaining. I thought going a little more in depth about some of these ideas (read: take another crack at ranting about it), would be interesting... Enjoy.

First and Second Thoughts on the Dead Weather

I've been sort of resisting discussing the Dead Weather since I first heard about them... why? Well because of my own bias really. I mean it's a new "supergroup" where you have on drums Jack White from the White Stripes/Racontuers... I'm big fans of both... combined Jack Lawrence, bassist from the Raconteurs/Greenhornes, guitarist Dead Fertita from Queens of the Stone Age... another favorite band of mine... and Alison Mosshart of the Kills, a band I wrote about for the Soul of Rock 'n' Roll, way back in the day.

Live Footage: Tome Petty and the Heartbreakers, 1985

It's been a good year for concerts, at least for me. I've seen some of my favorite bands live this past year, and some of truly amazing concert events. I'm going to a few more coming this spring (reviews will be written I'm pretty sure) and recently purchased some tickets for another concert or two and that got me thinking: What makes a concert special enough that I keep going to them?

Jeff Beck Performing This Week: Live at Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club - A DVD Review

Back last year I was lucky enough to be able to review the latest live offering from one of my most favorite guitarists: Jeff Beck. The album, Performing This Week Live at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club really caused a stir as a pretty incredible listen, a great showcase of the talents of Beck and his latest band, and a great addition to the Jeff Beck catalog, which has been somewhat lacking in live recordings.

Rock and Roll Feature: Beck's Modern Guilt

This is the twenty-sixth in a series of Rock & Roll features I'm writing for this site. I'm a rock and roller, so this column is a way for me to feature a different album that I like, from different genres every month.

Carnival of Rock and Roll-April 2009

Well back in late March it seemed as if the planets would align and I would finally, for the first time in months, be able to publish a Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll actually on the day I planned to. Everything was worked out, scheduled and I was ready, but as usual, it didn't come to pass quite as anticipated.
