Incubus Continues to Bring Complex and Exciting Music to the Stage: A Concert Review

Well I just couldn't keep away... my concert addiction continues... not that I'm really complaining. This time I caught a band I've seen a total of four times now, and will probably make an effort to catch every time they come around because they're a favorite of mine, and they always put on a great show: Incubus.

Lets Discuss 5 "Difficult", Yet Rewarding, Albums

I've been undertaking a little project recently... you could call it something of an archival project of my music collection. The details aren't important really. Instead what this project has given me is an view of a cross section of my listening tastes... what bands and albums I listen to the most, etc etc. I don't normally think about it that much, but as it turns out, apparently many of my favorite albums and bands are what many might consider "difficult" to listen to... and that's actually kind of interesting.

Mark Knopfler: Master of Touch, Tone, Timbre and Texture

When it comes to my influences in my own music and guitar playing, I've got far more than one might expect. Sure I have my core favorite guitarists/musicians to whom I look to the majority of my inspiration, but the number who have inspired me numbers in the hundreds I'm sure, and includes saxophonists, violinists, and even a bagpipe player (no joke). I feel like if there's a great musician out there who's doing something innovative, powerful and emotional... then there's probably something I can appreciate and learn from to enhance my own music.

Rock and Roll Feature: A Tribute to Sky Saxon through the Music of the Seeds

This is the twenty-ninth in a series of Rock & Roll features I'm writing for this site. I'm a rock and roller, so this column is a way for me to feature a different album that I like, from different genres every month.

Carnival of Rock and Roll-July 2009

Alright, its July, it's summer...although it's still in the high 60s (F) here in Chicago some days, not exactly summer weather... and its time to bring you more rock and roll meanderings from fellow music enthusiasts... It's time for the Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll of course!
