Rock and Roll Feature: For the Jesus and Mary Chain, Honey's Dead

This is the twenty-fifth in a series of Rock & Roll features I'm writing for this site. I'm a rock and roller, so this column is a way for me to feature a different album that I like, from different genres every month.

Tinted Windows: Debut from a New Super Group

There's been some surprising music news in recent days/weeks. A new collaboration between artists (if you choose, read: super group) has been assembled and their first single has shown up over at Rolling Stone. The band is called Tinted Windows and is made up of a... well, lets say unique... range of characters. Band members include: Adam Schelsinger, bassist of Fountains of Wayne; James Iha, ex Smashing Pumpkin, and former touring guitarist with A Perfect circle (if memory serves); Bun E. Carlos, drummer for Cheap Trick; and... Taylor Hanson? (Yes, that Taylor Hanson).

Still Carrying on the Torch of the Greats with Firebug: An Album Review

Being musically obsessed (the term I like to use to describe my love of rock and roll) can be a very time consuming process. Don't get me wrong, it's a labor of love, but it takes a lot of time to continually be seeking out new music from today and yesteryear. Plus then I just have to spend a good bit of time with my ears locked in my headphones absorbing all the sonic goodness as well (and I have a "day job" or two to take care of as well).

Rock and Roll Feature: A Ghost is Born from Wilco

This is the twenty-fourth in a series of Rock & Roll features I'm writing for this site. I'm a rock and roller, so this column is a way for me to feature a different album that I like, from different genres every month.

Well last month's feature was a classic album, from the original metal founders straight out of Britain, Black Sabbath. And so for the feature this month... something completely different!

First Listen to the Latest From U2

Well it's that's time again... everyone's favorite Irish political band is back with a new album... hard to believe it's been 5 years. I've been a fan of U2 for a long time now... a really long time and although I'll agree that some of their works are not quite as consistent as some of the others, I always find something artistic and valuable on every album, far beyond just the regular singles. This means of course, that I decided to check out the first single "Get On Your Boots" from the band's upcoming album No Line On the Horizon.

10 Bands to Rediscover Alternative: Part 2, The Supporting Cast

One of the most interesting things about the original alternative movement is that it brought bands that in the past would have been completely overlooked by the populous into the forefront. Once a few artists had broken down the barrier, the public was exposed not only to the mainstream artists, but also a lot of their influences and more underground peers.

10 Bands to Rediscover Alternative: Part 1, The Major Players

As you may have realized if you've read a few of my other posts, I grew up in the "Alternative Era", when suddenly underground bands were thrust into the limelight and 80s hair metal faded into the background (some might say, thankfully). Alternative will always hold a special place in my musical pantheon because it is a genre that includes many of the bands that were my first "favorites". These are the bands that made me the music fanatic I am today by drawing me in during those difficult years of adolescence.

The Dividing of the Pumpkins Fans, Part 4: Thoughts On the Role of the Artist, and the Artist/Fan Relationship

This is part 4 of a 4 part piece I am writing, inspired by a pair of Smashing Pumpkins concerts and a DVD documentary. As you may or may not know, I am a big Smashing Pumpkins fan, I always appreciate their work. I feel the need to preface this piece by saying that as it will give you an insight into the context of my commentary.

It's been something of a Smashing Pumpkins month for me. In addition to back to back concert events, I also picked up a copy of the band's most recent DVD release: If All Goes Wrong.
