Today I'll be spending roughly 11 hours at one of the biggest concerts of the year, Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festival, 2007. I was lucky enough to get tickets a number of months back and have been anticipating the action packed lineup for some time now, especially when I received the reminder email from TicketMaster that said concert to start at Noon and end at 11PM, and that the gates open at like 8 or 9 in the morning...
Almost an entire day hours of guitars, guitarists, music, and great concert jamming... That sounds like heaven to someone as obsessed with music, concerts, rock and roll, and guitars as me... should be one heck of a good time.
This gathering of musicians, mainly guitarists, is to benefit Clapton's Crossroads Antigua Rehabilitation Center and includes quite a lineup. The latest listing I've seen comes from Rolling Stone and is as follows:
Doyle Bramhall II
Robert Randolph & The Family Band
The Derek Trucks Band
It seems there were a few additions, as there are a couple of people I don't remember being on this list when I first wrote about tickets going on sale a long time ago... Exciting additions if I do say so myself. I think I'm most excited to see Jeff Beck, Johnny Winter and John McLaughlin as I've never seen any of them play live before but am big fans of all three. Also, just the sheer number of amazing guitar players surely will make for some amazing, once in a lifetime jams, and overall, it just sounds like an great lineup of musicians from all sorts of genres that should make for one heck of a show.
I heard that tickets for this event were gone in about 15 minutes from when they went on sale months prior, so even people who are in Chicago like me might not have been able to get tickets. I've heard that concert footage will be available online through MSN, so if you aren't able to get to the show, make sure to check out the footage online as... just look at that list again... there's bound to be some incredible performances and collaborations.
Also, make sure to check back on Monday July 30 as I'll have an in depth review of the event and some of my personal highlights.
