As someone who considers themselves something of a collector when it comes to music, there always seems to be an album or two that I can't seem to track down both in good condition and for a price I'm willing to pay. For the longest time I couldn't track down anything other than a “best of” from T-Rex; not to mention decent quality versions of any Frogs albums; and for whatever reason a copy of the soundtrack to The Muppet Movie can't seem to be acquired in decent condition for less that a c-note, used!
Now I've been able to track down some of these... although the Muppet soundtrack still eludes me for now... and it looks like I'll finally be able to add another hard to come by album long sought after to my collection. I'm referring of course to the debut, self titled album from the Queens of the Stone Age.
I've been a fan of the Queens of the Stone Age since almost the beginning. I even seem to remember at one point picking up their debut release at a local music store... back when local music stores still existed... and then putting it back thinking I'd be able to find it again at a later date. Since then I've looked for it, but alas used copies seemed to always be of poor quality, while new ones are imports pushing $60 or higher.
And right before Christmas time of last year relief came as a pre-sale was listed on Amazon for this long sought album re-released with bonus tracks. Of course, I promptly placed my order. My hopes were dashed once again though as shortly there after Amazon reported that not only was my order delayed, but completely canceled as they did not know when said album would actually be available.
It was only a matter of time though. The debut, self titled album from the Queens of the Stone Age is indeed being re-released with bonus material this spring, and that's not all. The band is also embarking on a short tour to commemorate the event during which they will play the album in it's entirety along with b-sides and more... awesome!
What does this mean? Well it means if you're a fan of Queens of the Stone Age, it means you should be checking out the tour dates and getting tickets asap... mine is already on the way. It also means that if you've long regretted not buying the band's debut album when you had the chance, you can not pick up the re-release... again, mine is already on the way.
North American tour dates can be found on the band's website here, and UK/European dates are available as well: http://www.qotsa.com/news/default.aspx?nid=33982
And of course the album can be pre-ordered here: http://www.dominorecordco.us/usa/albums/13-01-11/queens-of-the-stone-age
